For information,
Throughout my career I have seen people literally reduced to tears from lack of the computer experience needed to adequately do their job, (and often that’s been the Managing Director!)
When I set up SafetyOnTheInternet I was in the fortunate position of not needing to learn the IT skills needed to run a small business. I soon realised that I was in a minority. YOU need to worry about clients, sales, profit & loss, accountants, customers, so let me help you with the IT worries of running a successful small business.
If it’s your business, you need to know how to create invoices, design simple spreadsheets for forecasting your business plans, create effective and credible correspondence, record your activities, etc etc. And what about protecting your data, and ensuring its integrity?
Who do your staff turn to if there is a problem? I find it much more rewarding training people to avoid problems, rather than picking up the pieces afterwards. Do you know enough to understand what your staff are doing with your business computer resources? Do you know that your data is backed up and secure? Have you tested your backups?
Are your data, software, client lists, and financial records backed up? Do you have a copy of the backup stored off-site? Do you ever test your backups? Do you value your business enough to be prepared for problems by understanding what they are before they happen? Prevention is better than cure.
Are all your Windows Updates current? Did you even know that you can download FREE UPDATES from Microsoft to fix any problems that may be discovered since you bought your computer? These updates are designed to protect your data, and to protect you from viruses and other malicious programs.
Are you using Anti-Virus software? Is it up-to-date? Do you have procedures for monitoring staff use? Yes, this section is scary. If I motivate one small business to make their computing environment safe from disaster, I will have done a good job. Is your computer data really important to you? Would you suffer financially if it was lost or corrupted?
I am selling my knowledge and experience and skills. Nothing else. I can give you an objective and unbiased view on many aspects of modern business computing.
Many businesses fail due to lack of IT experience, or due to loss of vital data collected over many months or years. A few hours of focused training can help you double the usefulness of your Small Business Computer Resources. Let me help you take a step back, reassess your IT needs and set up the basic infrastructure to streamline your business.
I can, in a few hours, discuss your needs, examine and assess the standard of your business computer output, suggest alternatives, create new document layouts, set up simple new procedures, and create documentation to support these changes. Remember, the documents you and your staff produce may be the first contact that potential new clients have with your business. These documents show the standards to which you adhere.
Throughout my career I have constantly found that taking a step back, and looking at a situation, then creating enhanced ways of achieving something, pays you back tenfold.
"Give a man a fish; you have fed him for today. Teach a man to fish; and you have fed him for a lifetime."
In a few hours you can learn how to set up macros, templates, shortcuts, and learn about (often free) labour-saving utilities and add-on tools. Do you produce or sell a computer product that you need to train your customers to use? Train me to use it, then I'll train your clients.
Do you need user-friendly readable documentation producing for your product? I am highly-literate and user-friendly!! Do you have an excellent product but not the time nor skills to fully and clearly explain its use to your target audience?
